About Us
Close your eyes and hear the thunder of the buffalo hooves across this vast prairie; the pounding hooves of a fleeing white horse carrying young lovers from a midnight rendezvous; the creaking of the giant wheels of the Red River ox carts as families move west seeking new beginnings. These are but a few of the "Echoes and Legends" of Manitoba's Central Plains.
Built on a wealth of history, the Central Plains region is rich in contemporary diversity. Build your own "Echoes and Legends" as you visit our communities. Sample our foods, watch our birds, canoe our rivers, hike our trails, golf our links, sail our lakes, swim our pools, celebrate our festivals, shop our stores, dine in our restaurants, visit our museums, watch our craftspeople, and fill your visit with experiences that will become fond memories of time well spent.
It is our hope that this website will serve you well in planning your time with us, however brief or long that time might be.
About Our Logo
Our logo is meant to capture the essence of our Central Plains region — the Land of Echoes and Legends. The logo is a portrait of the physical and mystical symbols of the region.
The logo consists of seven key concepts or elements encased in the letter "C":
- wide open space
- reflections of the past
- golden grains
- a land of harvest
- brilliant blue
- rich with history
- telling skies
The Sky: How could a symbol of this region not include the sky? Ever changing, timeless. How many stories has it told? How many stories has it inspired? How many lives guided?
The Bison: Our link with the spirit of the past and the greater Manitoba community.
The Path: Through the centre runs the Trans Canada Highway, leading visitors into the heart of the Central Plains.
The Water: The lakes and rivers enhance and spring life into the region.
The Grains and Grasses: The gold fields behind the green grasses in the foreground pay tribute to agriculture, the grasslands and the marshes.
